Favorite Things

These things are in no particular order. I hate ordering favorites because they change day to day, mood to mood, project to project. These are just what I’m a fan of in general and not everything is represented. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Synthwave while I work — think 80’s synthesizer sci-fi movie scores, like The Terminator or Blade Runner.

Creative Goals

I want to earn a living creating things. Really cool things, not disposable crap, and not necessarily physical things either. Teaching is a form of creation through the introduction of new ideas that can lead to innovation. So is storytelling. I want to get a short story published somewhere, and if I’m bucket listing it then I want said story published in The New Yorker. So there you have it, I want to entertain and inspire, and pay the bills doing it. That, and maybe someday I want to try owning a cat. I'm undecided.

How I Got Here

I’ve always been into systems that use a few standard pieces to create much larger things. It’s what drew me to LEGO bricks when I was a kid and why I love playing games like Minecraft and Sim City. Web development is the same thing. I started dabbling in web development in my teen years as a hobby and spent so many hours frustraited with things not working right. That frustration pushed me to keep learning, and eventually I was getting paid to do it. And here I am, confident, competent, but hungry to learn more.
